In 2014, Multiple District 5 received a public relations grant from Lions Clubs International to promote Lionism and awareness of the benefits to be gained from attending Lions conventions. The MD5 grant was multifaceted, with each of the districts in South Dakota, North Dakota, and Saskatechwan completing their own specific projects. In addition to the districts, the overall Multiple District also participated in the public relations efforts. One of the end results from the Multiple District portion of the grant was the production of a short video entitled,
“Multiple District 5 Lions Share the Benefits of Membership.”

I encourage you to take the time to watch and think about its message. Thanks to DG Tom Armstrong, Lion Tod Dahle, Lion Crystal Dueker, Lion Jade Monroe, Lion Peter Crowley, Lion Shane Hofer, Lion Alexis Vondal, and Lion Tom Marquardt for sharing their perspectives about being a Lion and participating in activities and conventions.
International President Joe Preston has asked us to “Strengthen the Pride!” As we approach our centennial in 2017, we can take great pride in our association and the work that we do to help those in need. Special thanks to Adam Kempenich, a student and media production specialist at NDSU, who produced the video through Bison Information Network (BIN), a program supported by the NDSU Student Government and the Department of Communication. The grant provided for his attendance at the 2014 MD5 convention in Watertown, SD, in order to shoot the video, and for the editing and production of the finished product.
Looking ahead, the USA/Canada Forum in San Juan, Puerto Rico is set to begin next week. The programs and activities will inspire, and provide skills training and knowledge about ways to strengthen our clubs, districts, and international association. Kathy and I will be attending the forum, serving as table hosts at meals, greeting participants in the Director’s Booth on Saturday afternoon, and presenting a workshop on inspiring and motivating members through creative recognition programs. We will have much to report upon our return!
Best wishes to all who serve!
