  • Waiting and Watching: Signs of the Season

Posted at 2:10 pm by rlittlefield2015, on December 2, 2013

This past weekend, Kathy and I readied our home for the upcoming holiday season. We put up the lights, picked out our Christmas tree, and decorated the house. We still have some shopping to do, but setting the scene for our upcoming family gatherings put us both in nostalgic moods, remembering Christmases past and looking forward the days ahead. In fact, we can’t wait.

But waiting and watching is what Christmas is about. Right? After all, “good things” come to those who wait. Unfortunately, not everyone experiences “good things” during the holidays. Those who are hungry, homeless, alone, or afraid anxiously wait each day for something to eat, a place to sleep, companionship, and a sense of security. They watch and see many people around them full of the hustle and bustle of Christmas seemingly without noticing their plight.

As Lions, let us all be mindful of our good fortune and look around for those who need our Lion’s helping hand to lift them up and give them hope for a brighter tomorrow.

During this holiday season, consider donating generously to the Food Pantry, volunteering at the Salvation Army or local homeless shelter, or spending some extra time with someone who is alone or afraid. A small effort on our part can have such a positive effect on someone’s life and make such a difference in this world. Let the service of Lions be a lasting “sign of the season” that carries on throughout the year.

In the spirit of peace and joy!

    –Lion Robert

My time at the homeless shelter is a blessing. I learn so much and appreciate so much more.
