New book reveals how Lions International turned pandemic challenges into opportunities for renewal

OVIEDO, Fla. – In the face of the global disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Lions International, a premier global service organization, was thrust into uncharted territory. Amid canceled meetings, service projects, training seminars, and fundraising activities, the association faced unparalleled challenges. In his new book, “Resilience and Renewal: The Story of Lions International and the Crisis of COVID-19”(published by AuthorHouse), Robert S. Littlefield, Ph.D. offers an in-depth exploration of how Lions International not only survived the crisis but thrived in its aftermath.

Drawing on more than 50 interviews with leaders from Lions International across the globe, Littlefield reveals how the organization utilized innovation, communication, and technology to bridge the gap between its members, adapt to changing circumstances, and continue fulfilling its mission of service. These personal stories provide unique insights into the challenges, strategies, and successes that defined the Lions’ journey through the pandemic. Through the lens of collective decision-making and the adoption of creative problem-solving approaches, the book highlights how Lions International pivoted during the pandemic to ensure continued impact in communities worldwide. It underscores the importance of flexibility, empathy, and forward-thinking in navigating global crises — valuable lessons for any organization or community group facing future challenges of a similar magnitude.

“Lions International is a worthwhile organization whose members take faithfully their responsibility to serve,” the author states. “By embracing technology and increasing their communication, Lions were able to preserve their association and emerge from the pandemic in a stage of renewal.”

As the world marks the fifth anniversary of the pandemic, this timely book offers readers inspiration and a blueprint for overcoming adversity. “Resilience and Renewal” will resonate deeply with those who value community service, illustrating how individuals and organizations can rise from even the most difficult circumstances with renewed strength and purpose.
